1999-2004 Mustang GT Two-Valve
Engine Bolt-Ons |
5.0 Mustang & Super Fords |
|
Lately, we've encountered Mustang
enthusiasts-both neophytes and hardcore OGs-who firmly believe that the
horsepower "buck" for stock 4.6 Two-Valve 'Stangs begins and
ends with superchargers. These are the 'Stangbangers who pontificate on
enthusiasts' Internet forums, singing high praises of boost. They quite
often make performance claims about supercharged, stock 4.6s that go
beyond the realm of possiblity, let alone believable.

Alumastealth Aluminum Fuel Tank |
5.0 Mustang & Super Fords |
|
What's so cool about a fuel tank, you ask?
Well, in this day and age of "big power" in street 'Stangs,
one of the keys to attaining and maintaining serious muscle is by having
an efficient fuel supply, and doing that starts with having an
appropriate container for the fuel.

Procharger Supercharger Test: Beyond
Bolt-On |
5.0 Mustang & Super Fords |

Horse Sense:
When you're playing the power game, it all boils down to two basic
options: go hard or go home. Lately, supercharging a Two-Valve Mustang
seems to be one of best ways to go hard. But if you forego tuning your
new blower setup on a dyno, the going-home part might come sooner than
you want and it'll probably be expensive.

Tech Inspection: Flowmaster 3-inch
Exhaust Install |
5.0 Mustang & Super Fords |
|
The burble of Flowmaster mufflers has been
common to late-model Mustangs damn near since the beginning of the 5.0
revolution. Yep--it's been that long since we first heard "that
sound" on the streets and at drag strips from coast to coast.

Stick Swap: 5.0 Camshaft and Valvetrain Upgrade |
5.0 Mustang & Super Fords |
|
Horse Sense:
Cam swappers should be aware of the importance of selecting the right
camshaft. The super-lopey, high-lift cam you think is your ticket to low
e.t.'s might be the very thing that makes your 'Stang even slower than
it was before you made the change.
